Hunger Heroes

All of the food that was donated from the crop on February 7 was dropped off at the Gleaners Food Bank in Centerline. Hailey and I brought the 457 boxes of cereal, 85 cans of tuna, and 57 other misc. items…the total weight of all of the donated food was 413 pounds!!

To put that in perspective, here are some stats from the Gleaners web site:

gleaners1

  • Every $100 donated = 300 meals for a hungry person.
  • $1 feeds 1 person for 1 day

That means that your generous donations provided more than 2,700 meals for hungry people! The cereal boxes, tuna cans, peanut butter and other items will feed hundreds of families, all thanks to you!

All of those who participated are Gleaners Hunger Heroes! Congrats!

Have A Ball

Hailey’s Kindergarten class is celebrating their 100th day of school by bringing in 100 of something from home.

The homework assignment stated that it was very important that their be exactly 100 of something and that they must fit into a lunch bag. Racking my brain for some item around the house that there might be 100 of, or that would fit in the brown paper bag, I came up with cotton balls. Hailey and I counted out all 100 and put them in the bag for school.

My Amazing Discovery

In order to wind down at night, I typically switch the television on in my bedroom and surf until I find something to watch or fall asleep too. I have this down to an exact science at this point.

For instance, crashing around 11:00 means that I can catch an old episode of “House” or “Law & Order.” I know that if I lay me down around midnight-ish, I can count on a couple of “Sex & the City” episodes to keep me company. Maybe a little “Designed to Sell” on HGTV. If it’s pushing 1 a.m, I am pretty much at the mercy of the infomercial. By now I could have six pack abs after only working out three minutes a day for one week, streak-free mirrors and windows using an environmentally safe miracle cleanser, bacteria-free floors and counters using my state-of-the-art steamer vac, and no toxins in my body as a result of some foot pads that will draw all of the nastiness out.

Toys for Tots Crop 2008

November 15, 2008:

Croppers brought in a total of 72 toys for kids this Christmas!  I am glad that we all got to contribute to kids having a great Christmas while at the same time cropping our fav photos ; ) I want to thank all of the croppers that came out to participate. I love that I have a faithful following of returning scrappers who keep not only coming back, but referring their friends and family too! As long as you keep coming, I’ll keep hosting!

My favorite part of the day was my darling daughter building a tower of cupcakes for the guests…and I love the support of my unbelievable husband who deserves more gold medals than any Olympian for being married to a drama-mama like me. Thanks for bringing my babies up to see me during the crops, honey! Love you.

Check back soon for info. on upcoming crops. There will be one in February and April for sure.

Thanks Again!

Doggy Daddy

Peter, Christian, Dane and of course me, the party planner, all attended Hailey’s three-hour Halloween party at school. I arrived first with all three kids and eagerly awaited Peter’s arrival with a stack of $5 pizzas for the bash. From across the room, I saw a pair of feet at the classroom door (and only feet) and breathed a sigh of relief that my husband had arrived. My sigh turned into a gasp of horror when I realized that he had donned an adult Scooby Doo costume over his office-casual outfit. Many thoughts went through my head at that point…

My Trick-or-Treaters

Already planning their costumes for next year, Hailey & Christian love Halloween…Dane just thought he went for a long ride in the wagon. There aren’t that many children in our neighborhood so the kids collected tons of candy, which I later threw out in handfuls each day until it was gone whenever they weren’t looking. Halloween really brought out their true personalities. Hailey ran ahead, eager to reach as many houses as possible-always desperate to get to the door first. Very politely Christian went up to each house and attempted to take 2 pieces of candy every time, one for him and one for Hailey. Read the rest of this entry »

Any “Tink” for my Girl

Today I woke up with a horrible sore throat, head congestion, aching neck and ringing in my ears. That was the best stuff that happened today.

I tried to keep it low key and laze around so that I could be my sunny self tomorrow at Hailey’s school Halloween party, which I agreed to organize along with another mom. So between filling 25 treat bags for Hailey’s classmates, thinking up fun activities for the party, and fielding half a dozen phone calls from a mom who is WAY too into organizing this thing…(but is WAY nice ; ) I caught a yucky bug.

Sorry Indy, Sex Sells

So opening weekend of Sex & the City: The Movie, has come and gone and blown the box office away earning $55.7 million bucks. This was more than double what was expected, so this was one good flick! Perfectly orchestrated from beginning to end minus a few small points (allow me to explain ; ) the movie mostly stayed true to what the characters would actually be doing right now if they were real. The plot and direction that each character took were very fitting to that character, except for Carrie.

Carrie finally marries Big, but she’s wearing a so-called “vintage” ivory suit that cost less than the shoes on her feet. Then in another scene, she remarks on the $300 cost of a small throw pillow in her newly-designed apartment. Doesn’t quite add up for me. I have been following this show for years and have seen every episode many times over. Carrie would not drop $300 hundy on a stupid pillow when she could slap that down on a pair of shoes. The other issue I had is that Carrie had quite a few fashion mishaps throughout that had me thinking…stop trying so hard Miss Movie Fashion Person or whoever is in charge of dressing the skeletal frame of this gaunt lady. Apparently, SJP had dropped 10 pounds for the role that, in my opinion she couldn’t afford to lose in the first place. Next, she kept wearing a long-ass strand of pearls around the house, in bed or wherever. Seriously? Who does that? Oh and by the way, Carrie would never be satisfied getting married at City Hall in a stupid old-lady suit. Amen.

The other characters were pretty true to their, well characters. Well done.

So how did Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Blah Blah Blah Crystal do on the same weekend? A mere $46 mil. Sorry Harrison Ford, but you underestimate the power of a chick flick!
